Post 9 - Final Reflection

In the beginning of my internship my goal was to teach the students how to draw. I worked with the students over and over again to help them draw and after ten weeks, they had learned. If we want to achieve our goals we have to try again and again to achieve them and that will help us in our future.
During the ten weeks interning, the most important ideas and skills that I learned in my internship were how to make a word wall and how to teach young people to draw. I also learned a lot of things that I didn’t expect to learn. For example, I learned that relationships with professional employees such as my supervisor made me more confident. Being around adults helped me see how adults behave with students very nicely and I learned something from them. It developed me better and now I’m better equipped to be around professionals.
I saw many changes in myself because in a new country I learned a lot of things that make me grow as a student.  I saw many people who are from different countries both at IHSL and at my internship school. My most memorable moments from interning at The Brooklyn School of Inquiry were when students called me miss Rikza and they always made different things on paper and gave them to me.  They wrote nice things about me and that made me happy.  I will never forget those moments. They loved me a lot. When they had problems that made them sad, they used to come to me.
It’s really good to get experience from our internship because it will help you to learn more about jobs and it will also help you in your career.  It might be easier for me because I already have learned something from my internship. After high school I will go to college because after graduating I have to do something for my career. When I will graduate from high school I will go to college to finish my studies that will help me to pursue for my career. My biggest challenge was to handle the children which was often really hard because some of the kids didn’t listen to teacher and I had to help the teacher to hold the students when we were taking them from cafeteria to classroom. That was the biggest challenge for me.
If I got the chance to start a new internship next week, I would choose a different place to work because I want to improve my experience for different jobs because I will learn more about careers. I will advise new interns not to be nervous for the interview and dress professionally and behave like an adult. When you get an internship, you should try to work hard and learn something from it.
I will miss the students and teachers whom I was working with and The Brooklyn School of Inquiry where I went for my internship because I really enjoyed it so much  and they love’s me a lot.

Post 7 - Thank you Letter

Thank you Letter for my superviser and my respectful teachers whom I worked with during my internship.

May 18, 2012

Dear Ms. Kelly and Ms. Mellary,

Thank you so much for being great mentors and supervisors. I’m so grateful that you
put me in the 2nd grade English class with Ms. Mellary and Ms. Tair. You were so
respectful, understanding and big-hearted to everyone in school. You gave us ideas on
where we need to go in the school, since the school is quite huge. We would've not
known our places if it wasn't for you.

In addition to that, you taught us how to handle students and behave with the kids
appropriately, especially when we had to teach them about Aticates and Tribes.
Through this internship, I've gained so much more experience with kids. At first, I was
completely inexperienced with kids. However, because of your helpfulness and
understanding, I was able to slowly pick up the ability to work with them.

I will never forget your assistance and support during the internship period. Thank you
so very much.

Sincerely,

Rikza Waheed

Post 6 - Photo Essay

I already took the picture of Cafetaria that I really don't like which is really smelly and I don't like that and I don't like to go there it makes me feel bad and I really don't want to go there when students eat lunch and and we have to look at them and we have to help them which is really bad because I don't like to go in cafeteria ether in my school cafe.

This is the Class room where I go  for work and help the students, The thing which I really don't like is the mess that makes me uncomfortable in my class room because I don't like to stay in messy places so whenever I saw unorganized books in my class room I start to fixed them because unorganized books makes room unclean.

This picture is showing Bridge on the back of the students which is made by second grades students, this bridge is really big and beautiful they worked really hard to make this bridge. I was surprised because it was incredible bridge made by kids. So when I saw this bridge I was very happy they work very hard for that.
She is my teacher who helps me a lot to understand things and she also help me to learned about tribes which is really helpful because we must have to learn tribes in school. She also gave me favorite work which I am interested in. She was really nice with me druing my internship. Whenever I saw her I felt happy because she always pass me smile that makes everyone happy.

This is the work that I am done with it's a "Word Wall" where I have to write words with Alphabets there are different colors for different classes, like Math, English, Science, History, there are some vocabulary. And also I am done with some of the words. In those of the words I also have to write definition for those words.

Post 4 - Mid Point Reflection

The primary mission or purpose is to give free education to kids. I was expecting that I will do art and drawings and my job is to make drawings and use creativity in making word walls. I thought that I will get internship in art gallery but I got my internship in school. In Brooklyn school of Inquiry teachers take students with them in cafeteria and in classes but in IHSL teachers don't take students with them. We are responsible for everything. I learned that how to be polite with kids and how we have to behave with them. And I also learned that how to take more responsibilities. They are nice to me and helpful. Whenever I need help they helped me.I learned that we have to be more responsible in everything and we have to finish our work on time. We should not depend on other people. I have got good communication skills in my internship because I always try to speak with kids and try to be friendly with them. By speaking more English, my English has been improved. Before I don't know how to deal with kids but now I know how to deal with kids and how I have to behave with them. My internship schedule affected my class and grades but I always go for tutoring in before and after school to finish my homework that I cant finish at home. I have five weeks of internship left and I want to learn how to be more nice with kids and I hope to learn how to deal with kids. The things I learned about New York City is that how teachers treat kids and how they teach kids new things. I also learned that we have to become more responsible and mature.
